Oops: Letter scathingly critical of high salaries at WVIA gets into Times-Tribune
Tom McGeehan of West Wyoming rips WVIA for paying its boss, BIll Kelly, $175,000 a year for less than 40 hours of weekly work. Co-publisher Bill Lynett, of course, is on the WVIA board of directors.

I'll never give to the WVIA fund drive again. That's a sin.
Boy someone really did their homework on this one. Interesting to see the comparsion to East Stroudsburg...wow
The letter is better than any reporting the crack staff has done on the topic.
The writer of the letter did some very impressive work...but what will come of it?
If the board is self-perpetuating, nothing will happen. That sort of thing gets chosen from the inside and makes no waves, rocks no boats.
I've been trying to remember the name of the first guy. Was it George someone? He was getting about twice the local salary for the same job and justified it by saying he was worth it. Strimmel? That the guy?
How does Kelly sleep at night hearing his people ask for families to give $100 dollars to keep Sesame Street on the air...how long would it stay on if those two salaries weren't as high?
In light of programming costs, his salary is probably a negligible factor. (Truth in advertising: Kelly and I aren't exactly friends...) But if he were earning something comparable to others of his rank, spreading the lettuce around might improve moral up there.
I hear WVIA moral is at an all-time low. Kellly and Co. are breaking the backs of the station underlings for the glory of the upper crust. Shame!
Curra has been there just about three years and is already the second highest paid person at the station? What does that say to all the others how have put in far more years at WVIA.
I wonder why the letter hasn't appeared in the TL?
Why didn't it appear in the CV?
Just heard a plea for money on the radio station...wonder how much Kelly and Curra are giving???
the letter to the editor said the budget of the stations is 5-million and between these two people alone they account of nearly 5% of expenses, something is wrong here...
Kelly and Curra, as part of their job descriptions, bring in a huge chunk of that $5 mill budget with their own personal fundraising efforts (which push their work weeks well past the 50 per work mark). Kelly alone is responsible for at least $1 million in donations this year.
If Kelly and Curra are doing all this fund raising....then why am I still listening to and seeing these membership drives on the radio and television asking for money?
Cost of programming nitwit.
