The Pocono Record reports that news anchor Trish Hartman and videographer Dan Turansky (pictured) will staff the bureau.

16's fawning and pants-wetting about this news bureau was embarrassing even by WNEP's "standards"

"When you look at where people are moving, that area is becoming one of the growers. People work in New York and live in the Stroudsburg area," Schrader said.

It's been that way since the 80's they just now noticed???

The biggest news gatherer in the area just gets bigger again.

WBRE and WYOU opened a joint news bureau--with two reporters--in Stroudsburg with much the same hoopla three (or more) years ago. What's its status now?

I have to agree with the first poster, I caught some of Joe's bit the other morning and it was gushing to say the least.

It took the "NEWS LEADER" this longn to figure out that the Poconos was a growing news market and needed a bureau there? This should have been done 5 years ago. Way to go 'NEP finally waking up to what other news outlets figured out years ago. WAY TO BE LAST ON THIS ONE!!!!

16 has had a Poconos crew for years. Now, the crew has a place to have lunch.

It would be interesting to know just how many pocono transplants watch WB/Scr news vs. NY new stations.

I wouldn't think too many.
Coverage in the Poconos was talked about in the 80's but never materialized.

in the other direction...I remember Craig Stevens was 16's Williamsport Bureau, and after him Dan Fiorucci, and the car was their office. they drove from Avoca to Williamsport and back every day. 22 tried having one right around the time I left in 88 but I don't think it worked very well.

The Poconos has been advertised to NY Metro since the 80's as a nice place to live with a straight shot on I80 into the city. A lot of musicians live there for that reason. Phil Woods, George Young when he was on the East Coast etc.

The gushing by the talent was sickening, but the newsroom is a good idea. WNEP covered the Poconos years before 22 and 28 cared about the area. The crews spent a lot of time in the car.

Anyone know how 16 is getting the signal to Moosic?

I'm told it's fiber.

We all need more fiber.

Billy, you've been out of the market a long time. How are you going to grab the transplants if you don't have a strong presence in the area? I haven't seen a lot of Hartman's work. What I have seen has been more than passable.

I'm not dissing anyone's work. And a strong presence IS necessary to grab the locals, and no one does presence like WNEP.

All I'm saying is that it will be a hard row to hoe with the transplants.(yeah it's spring! LOL) Many of those transplants still work in the city, and basically commute and sleep in the Pocono's. (they leave early and get home late and are asleep before the 11 pm news in order to do it all again the next day)

Believe me, I know from personal experience.

They don't have time for the local news, they want to know the traffic, etc on their way to and from the city. and no SCR/WB station will likely give them that.

It's gonna be tough and not cheap either.

Watch circulation decline AGAIN at the Pocono Record as WNEP eats their lunch. They might be "for sale" but will they be worth buying?

They will be fore Times-Shamrock.

That Trish looks like a hot blonde. Bob Absher's influence lives!

I can't wait until the wino's and freaks gather outside those rather large windows nightly to gawk, urinate and masturbate for The News Station.
Trish may have to sport a burqua.

Bill, WNEP is on at 5am. That's early enough to grab even someone with a long commute. WNEP also does NYC commuter weather on some casts. No regular traffic reports.

The Poconos as a suburb of NYC goes back the early 70s. The migration got serious when land developers and real estate agents started telling NYC buyers that commuter rail service was "right around the corner." That big lie sold hundreds of millions of dollars of real estate in Pike, Wayne, and Monroe counties. Despite all the talk, rail service is no closer now than it was 30 or more years ago.

WBRE was the first to open a Pocono Bureau in roughly 1987/88. It had loser written all over it and lasted months, not years. It was literally no more than a sign over a storefront.

WBRE/WYOU did go back and try again about three years ago, but the effort is lame, mostly due to Nexstar's unwillingness to commit resources to the effort and, of course, their complete inability to do anything right.

WNEP's presence will bring rewards for one simple reason; they'll do it right, at least by comparison to WBRE/WYOU.

FWIW, the bureau concept was abandoned in a lot of markets because it tells those living in a bureau town/area that they're pretty much an afterthought, not a part of everyday coverage, therefore not important.

The only thing driving a Pocono presence is money, the hunt for more revenue with Pocono advertisers. It remains to be seen if that money is there. If it ain't, you'll see the bureaus shuttered within a short time.

The much heralded newsroom isn't getting the daily use I expected from the hype during its grand opening. The reporter was even back at the station in Moosic last week with a story from the Poconos. What gives?

I'd like to work in the Pocono bureau alone with Trish. Mama Me'a.
