An ode to Dave Konopki and Jerry Kellar
Chris Hine, a sports writer for the student newspaper at Notre Dame and a NEPA native, writes about how he learned to be a pro by seeing how Kellar and Konopki handled the story of his father, a high school coach forced to retire. A nice piece.

His father should be very proud of him. Editor-in-chief of newspaper at a very prestigious school. Mr. Hine was one of the best teachers I had. We all know it was the McCarthy's who drove him out. He should have fought back.
I make a motion we nominate "stay classy" as the blog's most overused phrase. Is there a second?
The error has been corrected. Apologies.
5:25, I nominate "asshat" as the most overused phrase. It was funny the first time, the second time it was corny and now it's just lame.
Makes me miss the days of "man up."
The McCarthys are the ones that run Holy Redeemer, all bought and paid for!The principle and so on take orders from them and the one son is a basketball coach..ahhh the power of money...I WILL DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE!1
Two classy guys,(R.I.P. Jerry) and two good writers i should know their (Dave) my competition.
Column was OK and all ... but, if they "had the truth" ... they should've printed it.
Victims have to relive terrible ordeals all the time when "suspects" are "called out" to face the truth.
People say coaches are forced to retire all the time ... but no one ever hears the other side.
Jerry Kellar, may he rest in peace, had a thing for columnists going after coaches. The most notable example, in the 1980s, concerned Don Zimmerman of the Sunday Independent and Coughlin's J.P. Meck. A lot of WVC coaches lived in fear of Zimmerman after that. Jerry would usually come to the defense of a coach if he thought the coach was being treated similarly to Meck.
Jerry was a class act, I agree. I miss the guy.
Must be a different McCarthy than the one who used to work at the TL. She was a suck up, got fired anyway. Maybe it was coming in late every day and taking two hour lunches with her friends that did it?
RIP, Jerry
