Former NEPA TV newser JoAnn Pileggi: Sharing tape is for suckers

Seacaucus, N.J.-based WWOR-TV's JoAnn Pileggi checks in with Jersey blog readers and shares how getting not getting her contract renewed in NEPA was the best thing that ever happened to her. Since moving, she's even gotten to cover Springsteen! And Bon Jovi!

She's attractive, yes.

A bad day anywhere beats a winter's day in NEPA.

Just one of many former NEPA TV people working in NYC. Did a fine job anchoring, but an even better job as a reporter.

hose monster? there has to be a story there...

JoAnn arrived about the time I left 22. I met her once at Tink's or Farley's I believe. Seemed okay.

I have some info on other former 22ers if anyone cares.

Me? aw who cares...;-)

Any truth to the rumors about her and former DA Mike Barasse?

Bill Mecca said...

That, I don't know as she was after my time, but there were other rumours about Mike with a former Scranton beat reporter. have no idea if they were true, but I remember them.

Mike's a judge now.

There is a police report that has floated around the TT newsroom that stated Pileggi was the only occupant of the car that flipped onto its side. MB was rumored to have been the driver but hid in a nearby store when police responded to the accident.

I know someone who worked/works in the courthouse...he saw them holding hands more than once...
Hmmm....

She needs to re-visit her departure from WYOU/WBRE. Seems to me she was terminated after failing to show for work three days in a row, it had zero to do with any contract renewal. If that info is incorrect, anyone is welcome to challenge it.

10:22 now that you mention that, it does sound familiar

I didn't realize Teri Simonich was posting here.

Hose monster? Of course, she's Italian.

I think Howard Beale just returned from the grave.

the lack of precise, attuned, intellectual thought, on this blog is intriguing. I hope it is not the state of consciousness of our local reporters / media / and, or arm-chair-critics. So be it that, if the one's who reveal sunshine upon the darkness of municipal and county government, are posting on this blog, then we as so-called knowledgeable journalists, are doing a great disservice to ourselves and the public. I would think this forum would contain a substantive discussion of the issues and people; however, maybe we just have here a bunch of flunkies...turn in your two-week notices and try a marketing career. It's a good way to sell yourself, and a great place for the attitudes - the ego - bounded on these pages.

I'm sorry, could you repeat that?

The meaning is not hidden; the statement is expressed in a logical and non-elusive fashion.

If I recall, Pileggi had a blow out with a WBRE reporter. I can't remember his name because he wasn't there long, but it happened immediatley after the Lakie Carey tornadoes. Pileggi kept getting in BRE's live shot and standups. Then afterwards, Pileggi didn't come to work for three or four days and she was canned.

Smoke em' if you got em'

6:48 that reminds me of a story....

and the day came when the 21st century dawned, and the new American Generation, Y - why?, offered civilization, a tv remote, a video game, a bag of chips, and profound thoughts such as "asshat." The day came when those who may have asked for a dialectic, were shot down, by bruised egos who didn't give a damn for the Socratic method, but gave a damn that they could flick on a fine TV show, and giggle their way into sleep.

Is there a Pulitzer Prize for pompous pedantry? Go for it, duuuuude!

Anonymous said...

I'm not Generation Y, I'm a gorramned Baby Boomer and proud of it, and I'm the one who popularized "asshat," so bite me you pompous dickweed.

Thank you very much.

Asshat was over about five years ago. It's only because some buttwipe like Jimmy Kimmel figured out he could say it on TV that it went beyond the Internets.

Asshat was first popularized by fark.com.

People who use the word asshat are themselves, asshats.

What's this, NEPA journalism picking up a catchphrase just in time for it to be archaic?

Anonymous said...

Love it! I hear the cool folks in NEPA will be getting iPods soon!

Anonymous said...

Finally, an enjoyable debate! Now let's turn it somewhere...., and don't afraid to be "pompous." Expressing yourself through well-placed words, and dare I say, thoughts, is not so...bad, dude.,

Anonymous said...

Let's get back to JoAnn.
Come to me, you Italian mama!

Anonymous said...

What's an iPod? Is that like a Walkman?

Anonymous said...

Clever, succinct, pungent, vivid -- in NEPA, "asshat" is just about as good as it gets. Please don't try to take away my "asshat."

Anonymous said...

You all are f_ _ ked up. Poseurs. Sad.

ya know, I tink I saw a couple two tree asshats up da mall one time, or mebbe dat was up de Eynon.

Now that I have a few minutes.
Back to what 6:48 reminded me of.

There was a train derailment in Taylor, they had evacuated much of the area and the command center was at a firehouse I believe. (It has been a while).

Both Rich Noonan from WBRE (remember him?) and I were doing live shots for our respective stations. There wasn't much room for us, the cameras, cameramen and lights, so we were shoulder to shoulder. At that time both our stations, and probably 16, would do "headlines" before the show open.

Sometimes just anchor VO, but many times reporters either on tape or in this case, a live headline.

We always used to remark about how the different stations clocks were different. Well, not that night.

Both Rich and I hit our live shot headlines at the exact same moment. BAM! we were both on the air, saying something to the effect "I'm Bill Mecca/Rich Noonan live in Taylor where authorities have evacuated residents because of a dangerous train derailment, I'll have that story."

Both of us, inches apart, delivering nearly the exact same line at the exact same time. We held our ground and when we were clear, broke up and gave each other a high five. We could have easily "lost it" while on the air, but fortunately we didn't. That's not to say later in that same newscast other things didn't go awry, but that is another story for another day.

Has anyone heard where Rich is these days? last time we met up he was anchoring at 29 in Philly.
