Wait. Is that Web site for real?

The Electric City Web site? Apparently, not given that the Milestones article has ZERO links although it references a bunch of stuff that could've been linked. Does Rube know his stuff shows up online? My god.

Um, did people know he was an assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator at Da U? Not to be a dick, but isn't that a conflict of interest with being an assistant sports editor?

What is the conflict of interest you're talking about?

Times Shamrock policy: What confict of interest?

An assistant sports editor helps decide what a paper covers, how it covers it and how that story gets played.
A university has a vested interested in lots of coverage and favorable coverage.
And unless he was volunteering his time, Randy had a vested interest in the university doing well and the team getting favorable coverage. Hypothetically, even if he wasn't getting paid, puff pieces on the U would make his job as a recruiter easier.
So how is all of that NOT a conflict of interest?
I'm not saying Randy did anything wrong or abused his dual role, but most newspapers try to avoid the appearance of conflict. His bosses should have flagged this and forced him to make a choice. At the very least, he shouldn't have handled U of S news.

Of course, as noted here, Times Shamrock regularly writes about the radio scene without disclosing its local ownership role. So the Randy thing doesn't surprise me in the least.
