W-B politico Kevin Blaum to write politics column for the TL
Kevin Blaum, a former state representative who is a big wheel in local politics, is going to be writing a column about politics in the Times Leader, publisher Richard Connor reported Sunday and reporter Rory Sweeney reported a few days before that. No word if this is a pay gig or if Blaum is renouncing political involvement.

Blaum's an asshat.
I thought he was still playing for the Penguins.
Someone explain the big deal here. A front page article announcing it and a love-fest by Connor to announce this guy becoming a TL columnist. What is the big hoopla.
Gene Padden!
Hey just another reason for readers to know that if they're not white, rich and powerful, the TL's news just ain't for them...
I'm sorry former colleagues, the TL of today is in a sad state!
It's an essentially Republican paper trying to reach out to a Democratic audience. Just a way to sell more papers is all. I'm guessing it'll be a big yawner, like most TL content is these days. The paper is info-starved, especially when it comes to local content.
Will Kevin Blaum write a hard hitting column that chastises and criticizes or a column that promotes his employer, Wyoming Seminary, and smooches up to Connor's buddies and agenda?
This is so-o-o-o not a wise use of newsprint. There is absolutely NOTHING he will say or write that the average reader will find interesting, thought-provoking or compelling. THAT is a guarantee. Guys like Blaum are better suited as column topics.
Hell, Blaum may well be one of the T-L's shadow investors.
maybe petrilla will write for CV.

It's jerkoffs like 10:09pm that ruin the credibility of others. Blaum's first column hasn't been published and yet, this jerkoff is passing judgement. Wait and read his column first - jerkoff - before making your already known negative opinion.
I agree we should wait for the first column....but Connor's over-the-top ode to Blaum was not only sickening (I thought he might announce they were going to adopt him before it was over)but I think clearly indicates that what an earlier poster said: We'll all be serious rich white folk discussing things you scum need to hear about...I wasn't Bigler's biggest fan but I came to appreciate his honest efforts. I don't know about this time around. Have to give him credit though ala the half-page ads: GREAT teeth does Blaumy have....

After in fact reading *your* post, I can state without fear of contradiction that anything you write is so-o-o-o-o not a wise use of ones and zeroes." Jerkoff?" Three times? Someone buy this idiot a thesaurus.
I stand by my earlier post. I've seen a number of cases where a local official/personality is handed a column and in turn produces soporific copy defending a status quo that made him or her popular in the beginning. That's the downside. The upside is that no one but the writer's buddies give a hoot or bother reading what the writer has to say.
Maybe Blaum will be different. Maybe, for instance, he'll attack our self-serving, fatuous state legislature even though he spent years in its emnrace. Or maybe he'll take his political peers to task for the mess LuzerneCo's in. If he proves a lively and independent thinker, I'll admit I was wrong.
Kudos to Rory Sweeney for his story in today's TL on county expenses. Great story and keep the pressure on....
Yea...Blaum really needs the money...like there arent enough local media grads..who are bartending or maning the local T-Hill or laboring away in the freelance zone that could use a break like that no lets give it to another political hack....What are they going to call it,,,WHATS IN BONVIES CUP!!
Blaum's brother went to Vegas with Hyder. Write about that, Kevin.
Rory Sweeney would probably confuse Blaum being appointed columnist with Blaum being appointed commissioner. Aftr all, he did get EVERYTHING wrong in the Tudor Bookstore story
OK, the Turdor story is over. Get past it. Sweeney did and the TL did. You learn from your mistakes. Anyone here never make one?
