Good for Lou! I wish I knew her secret for staying with, and getting promoted by, a company that seems so at odds with her business philosophy.

The company isn't at odds with her philosophy at all. Obviously they just promoted her to oversee more stations. How can you even argue her vision isn't theirs?
That guy who anchors the 6 and 11. p.m. news on 22 looks really gay.
This lady is that truly rare major broadcast station manager who achieves success personally, credits her people for it and represents it all with dignity and class. She may not only survive this change in ownership but actually improve WNEP. Congratulaions, Lou.
why does she have a guy's name?
I brought up her business philosophy. She was working for the New York Times with a solid reputation for news and business policies that would stretch from NY to the west coast. The new owners of WNEP seem like yahoos who have no rules and a philosophy of put anything on the air that will boost ratings--at the least cost. Just read the LocalTV website.
Watch out WNEP. The guy your owners just put in charge of news at all the stations used to work in California. As news director, he started with a solid hard news operation and good ratings. He cleaned house, change content to hyped fluff and delivered low ratings. Danger, Will Robinson, Danger!!
Inside info says that any news director candidate who suggested big changes during their interview was immediately scratched from the list. There will be no big changes...
12:41 again...I'm not talking about the WNEP news director. The Local TV website has a release on a former California news director put in charge of news and programming for all the stations. The new owners have said they want to shake up things. He wouldn't be hired to do nothing. I repeat, Danger, Will Robinson, Danger!
Lou knows what makes the money at 'NEP? Think she'd let someone screw with that? Especially now that she's moved up in the company?
Lou is respected by the majority of the staff. She's yet another of the GM's who improved the station, or at least didn't screw it up. Just don't think no one would mess with WNEP.
KRON in S.F. had a long tradition of good ratings, a top news staff and heavy community service. It's all gone. Why? A new owner concerned more about money than tradition.
This isn't a prediction the same will happen to NEP, but I fear it.

I see Lou still sports that "Phony Smile" she is well known for at 16. She has been known to give you that perpetual grin as she is turning the knife in your back.

While I appreciate everyone's comments and point of view, would just like to remind you of how tough it is for a woman to survive in TV Land and maintain a posture and any simblance of integrity. TV is just like any other business. Dog eat dog. I have worked for and with Lou. At least she thinks about making the hard choices which affect employees. Can that be said for most TV Land managers? Not! I have been in tv for a long time, and have seen the absolute worst and some of the best. I count Lou Kirchen as one of the best. No one is going to make all the right calls, but I applaud her for having the mind to try. Keep going Lou!
