TL to buy Philadelphia Weekly?

We're sorry to be late on this, but the Philly alt-weekly reports that Richard Connor is in the running to buy the paper. Comment, please.

    Lots of alt-weekly news this week. AKS wrote a pretty nice piece in The Weekender about how, though he'll still help cover music for the mag, he'll soon be moving back to the TL full-time to manage the NIE program. Also, Weekender redesigned its website and added blogs, and Times-Shamrock launched some sort of regional music mag. Busy times for the alts. Connor to Philly? Why not?

    Unless you live in Philly, why would anyone care who owned Philly Weekly? Actually, even if you did live in Philly and liked the paper, why would you care who owned it? Most readers pay little or no attention to such stuff.

    Weeklies are more profitable in today's newspaper environment.

    With Times Shamrock's domination of NEPA papers, I'd imagine it would be useful income.

    Fav line in the weekly story is when they call Connor and his control over opinion/editorial a "party of one."

    Ha. They can see what a crappy writer he is a mile away. Bet people are shitting themselves thinking about writing for a guy who writes those AWFUL columns. Seriously, I have seen better writing in a high school rag.

    Connor has been looking at papers in Allentown and State College also. I agree with the poster above. PW is a nice cushion. Jim McDonald worked there also.
