Revisiting the Chiquita story in Cincinnati

Former Cincinnati Enquirer reporter Cameron McWhirter has an interesting piece in the latest CJR about shield laws and the infamous Chiquita story -- supervised by Larry Beaupre, who left the paper in the fallout and is now the editor of The Times-Tribune of Scranton. Cordaro/Munchak campaign goes after Times-Tribune objectivity

The Cordaro-Munchak campaign is circulating a letter to Times-Tribune Editor Larry Beaupre complaining that a newspaper executive has donated to the Washo-O'Brien campaign and that a co-owner of Times-Shamrock is law partners with O'Brien's uncle. Times-Tribune continues to push on jail birth story

The Scranton Times-Tribune is talking about going to court to get documents connected to the recent birth at the Lackawanna County Prison. “We’re reviewing our options, because the taxpaying public has a right to know,” Larry Beaupre says. Kudos to the newspaper's vigor.

Ed Christine is out

UPDATE: An e-mail allegedly from editor Larry Beaupre and posted here by a commenter seems to confirm that Ed Christine has left the building.

EARLIER: The rumor mill is reporting that Ed Christine is no longer the metro editor The Times-Tribune of Scranton.

In the interim, read "Surgeon, editor to face new challenges in China" -- a story written about Ed Christine by Ed Christine's wife.
