Stories we missed: Dave Iseman gets a promotion in the Ozarks

We're just happy to have a new mug. But Dave Iseman impressed his bosses at the News-Leader of Springfield, Mo. enough that they picked him over 22 other applicants to run the paper's editorial page. Click above to read editor Don Wyatt's laudatory story announcing the move. Kudos.

  1. We demand the photo of Iseman, with Robert Plant hairstyle, manhandling a small black child.

  3. This move poses a series of burning questions, not the least of which are:
    1) Will SAYSO come to the Ozarks?
    2) Will they finally make "The Dave Iseman Story" starring John C. Reilly?
    3) Whither Walzer?

  4. I thought that old photo of Iseman actually was of him carrying the rotting remains of Chester Miller back home from Florida.

Man, he wrote way too much on that!

  5. Congrats Dave!
Everyone bitched about his style etc., but since his departure from NEPA, no one has been able to match
his talent and constant pursuit to hold public agencies accountable.
The media in NEPA is worse without him because he raised everyone's game.

  6. The bottom line is everyone who has gotten away from Allison and NEPA have done well for themselves (there are even several publishers in that group). Those that stayed are stuck in a rut.

  7. Yes, three thumbs up to Dave I. He was always a good friend to me -- I was a correspondent, editorial and column writer, but never full-time -- and a straight shooter. When he liked my eyes he let me go for it, when he didn't -- like when I wanted to try and get inside a Hazleton street gang -- he would just tell me that I was nuts, which I probably was. But his news instincts were good and, as a veteran of a couple of newspapers, from the Centre Daily Times to the Gainesvile Sun, I know that personalities don't matter as much as performance, and he had, and still has, the chops.

  10. 8:0 am NICE. You are the picture of compassion. No wonder reporters are lower scum than lawyers these days.
11:56 am Your body must be as alien as your commentary. Three thumbs?

  12. Congratulations, Dave. WB sure misses you. I think Dave would have been OK if he stayed. He has great instincts and good news sense but just needed to be tempered a bit now and then. Walzer just let him go with his goofiness and sensationalism. No editors stood up to him and they should have. He should have respected that but you couldn't disagree with him or you were doomed forever.

  14. So's the Ozarks.
And that's in Missouri, or Misery or however you spell this little piece of paradise for Iseman, who really has nowhere else to go.
    Enough said.
Karma's a bitch and then you die again.

  15. what do you mean no where else to go, my understanding is that he had several offers, including the opportunity to state in pa, but chose to leave.
Open your eyes folks, there's a fine world outside of NEPA

  17. He once had the TL designers come up with a full-page "Wanted" poster with the then-mayor of Hazleton's face on it. The man is just brilliant, I say, brilliant ...

  18. I remember his words to me...
"we will pay you less than you are making now because you are getting the opportunity to work at a bigger paper."
Is there any other industry like that?

  19. wow, he actually said that, and you came to work at the paper anyway....doesn't say much about your judgement
