Kudos to Nichole Dobo, who is now reporting for the York Daily Record. She is the third Times-Tribune reporter to move on recently to a larger Pennsylvania newspaper, which speaks well to the T-T.

ReplyDeleteUh, the YDR has a smaller circulation than the T-T.

It is a 47,500 circulation daily with a Sunday circ of 90,300.
Equal weekday and much larger Sunday.
I'd also argue that the YDR has a larger profile in Harrisburg and Baltimore, making it a higher-profile newspaper. It's not exactly moving on to the Washington Post, but it's a move up.

ReplyDeleteSome clueless posters here. To 10:23, the T-T's daily circ is 55K, making it larger. YDR's Sunday is larger, but only because they jointly publish on Sundays with the York Dispatch. And to 11:53, if you think the York media has any "profile" in Harrisburg or Baltimore, you're on crack. The York papers are about the same size-wise and morale-wise as anything in NEPA.
ReplyDeleteJudging from the above comments, it appears the difference in circulation and the cultural/living opportunities each city offers are either negligible or minimal. So what? The more important point is York has a reputation as a writers' paper and is regarded as a quality product at its circulation level.
ReplyDeleteThat's not so much the case at the TT, despite all the fine writers who work or have worked there only to have their journalistic spirit nearly sucked out of them with beat notes and story quotas (what story quotas?) before getting the hell out of there.
Nickie Dobo is a great reporter going to a good newspaper. Enough said.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if the 2007 Pennsylvania Newspaper Association awards mean anything to ya'll, but the York Daily Record placed in eight out of nine categories, including a first place in general newswriting and editorial page excellence. By comparison, the Times-Tribune placed twice out of ten categories (First in advertising excellence and honorable mention in special section).
You do the math.
