That Times Leader can be hard to figure out

The newspaper runs a story about the upcoming Office convention in Scranton. Fair enough. But the art is of Tim Holmes, a bigshot executive for... Times-Shamrock. The paper couldn't get a shot of the mayor downtown or something? And the story's author is Betty Roccograndi -- a member of the paper's reader advisory committee. Only in Wilkes-Barre are reader advisory committee members given op-ed columns and newswriting assignments.

  1. Betty was a reporter for the TL many moons ago - and a pretty good one at that.

  2. Nobody sees the big picture here. In Sunday's TL there's a package on The Office Convention, a show sponsored by Times-Shamrock. Why would this be in the TL? Because TS is going to buy the TL sooner than later. NEPA journalists wake up and do a story on this.

  4. Hey 10:27, are you one of people who swore up and down that Knight Ridder would sell the TL to Times-Shamrock?

  5. Hey 5:09. Do you really think Times-Shamrock would buy the TL with the Walzer bag of shit hanging over it? Now that only the stench remains, anything can happen.

  7. Dorks? That's all NEPA journalists. You guys are more worried about your jobs than doing actual reporting. How is the TL doing in hitting their financial benchmarks agreed to by the private equity firm? Anyone know? Didn't think so you lazy hacks. Check into it and you'll see the TL a part of the TS family within a year.

  8. Why would the Times-Shamrock folks even consider buying the T-L? Why not just pump the purchase price into the CV, make it a kick-ass paper, and grease the skids even further for T-L. No way it can withstand economic pressure long-term.

Yes, W-B is well on its way to being a one-newspaper town, and the T-S will own it. What makes you think the masthead will read Times-Leader?

.....and somebody's a little more worried about the all-important blogging than doing actual reporting. If it's such an important story, get off the blog and go for it. We have enough lazy hacks on this site. Thanks.
