Longtime TL reporter and copy editor Tom Mooney retires, and Mike Liechty throws a party in his honor. Read Steve Mocarsky name-check Mary Therese Biebel, Jerry Kellar, Joe Soprano and Dawn Shurmaitis.
Wow. Just ran into this by accident, which then led me on to the "What Happened to Walzer?" pages. I was the Times-Leader assistant news editor from 1992-1993, in what I now refer to as the "longest 10 months of my life."
It wasn't Walzer, really that made it so bizarre. She was just another character in a kind of alternate "Twin Peaks" style universe. She once gave me a bonus for using the word "You," in a headline (something that you really shouldn't do, according to my crusty old journalism prof.)
Anyway, I have fond memories of Tom Mooney, who always managed to stay sane and keep a straight face, while the world went crazy around him. Congratulations, Tom, on a wonderful career.
after reading that story i felt warm and fuzzy all over.
