Former WBRE reporter Kathy Bozinski fired from county job
Kathy Bozinski, the former WBRE reporter who has been working the past few years as a spokeswoman for the Luzerne County commissioners, has been fired, Jennifer Learn-Andes of the Times Leader reports. That's quite a picture the TL ran with the story.

ReplyDeleteKathy was a nice girl, no question about it. But what TV station would take her back now. She's essentially a Democratic party mouthpiece. No fault of her own; that was just her job all those years. And no TV station would want someone of that public perception in its midst. My prediction: you'll see her show up at the Times Leader, maybe in some sort of online editorial capacity. Or maybe in some fluffed up useless do-nothing position like omsbudsmen or something

Are you kidding. The position of public information officer is an at-will employee. It's the same as press secretary for the White House, they come and go with the change of presidents so look for Petrilla to hire one of her own croonies for the job in a few weeks. Someone needs to write up news releases with spelling errors or give tours of the courthouse to grade-school students.

ReplyDeletesomeone earning nearly 60K a year needs to do more than write up proclamations and "administer the county's (lame-ass) Web page." You could hire some greenhorn straight out of college for less than half that. If a county the size of Luzerne needs a public information officer, then the job has to be more than learning how to spell "whereas" and running interference for a political rube like Skrepenak.
As for taking calls from reporters until 10 p.m. - who cares? You're telling me that as a reporter Kathy never called any flaks after horus? How quickly we forget.
And re her personal appearance, Kathy no doubt is, shall we say, an unusual-looking woman. Tall, very, very tall, big bones with a wide jowly smile and surprisingly flat-chested for such a big girl. But she's not at all unattractive, just different and she carries all her stuff well. This is not a fair photo.

She was overpaid and unnecessary.
She was hired by an arrogant politician who has an inflated sense of self-importance and does not think he has to answer to his constituents.
Some people are brave in their anonymity aren't they? Kathy is a real pro and I predict she will be back better than ever. For those that are critical of just what a "public information officer" does, they have no clue as to what is really involved behind the scenes. Depending upon who the elected officials are, she could deserve twice her salary.

ReplyDeleteIt's interesting that none of the brilliant NEPA media minds has brought up Petrilla's role in the 1994 state rep race in the Hazleton area.
Petrilla used to work for Tom "Turncoat Tommy" Stish, and surreptitiously called PHEAA and obtained confidential student loan information on Stish's opponent, Susan Parrick. Stish was indicted by a grand jury but one of Mike Conahan's political cronies was appointed special district judge to hear the case and tossed the charges.
This is all well documented and was widely reported in the press at the time.
Just bringing it up to point out that she's no white knight herself.
